The EBA and ECB statistical report on the subject points to a fraud figure of 4.3 billion euros in 2022 in Europe, for all means of payment combined.
In France, the OSMP forecasts a loss resulting from fraud of 1.2 billion euros in 2023.
In Europe, bankcards are still the most frequently used means of payment. But strong authentication mechanisms are proving their effectiveness. The main objective of the regulatory authorities remains to limit the number of exemptions, and to reinforce the protection of transactions not subject to strong authentication.
