The use of the cell phone as a "payment terminal" (TapToPhone) expands the scope of card payment usage, but it is essential that the customer experience is positive from the very first time.
With this in mind, EMVCo publishes 7 categories of recommendations for TapToPhone software vendors.
For example, the NFC antenna of a cell phone is less powerful than that of an Eftpos terminal, so it is necessary to be "precise" in the way the card is positioned, and the cardholder's attention must be drawn so that he does not withdraw his card too quickly. Another key point is that a cell phone is sometimes used for something other than paying, so notifications or phone calls must be managed appropriately without endangering the integrity of a payment transaction in progress.
EMVCo also publishes updates to the SRC / Click To Pay and 3DS specifications in which new data carries information that increases the possibilities of challenge-free authentication (RBA / frictionless).
In a consultation document on MSCT (Mobile Initiated Sepa Credit Transfer), the EPC sets out seven very concrete use cases for the implementation of MSCT according to the type of authentication method implemented (on the mobile / on a dedicated device), the connectivity mode available (connected mobile or not) and the interface with the point of acceptance (NFC, QR, BLE). The consultation also introduces the concept of "CPSP - Collecting PSP" which provides some of the same services as an acquirer in a card model (consolidated settlement, traceability, ...). The document gives a first overview of the complexity of the situations that could arise and therefore the complexity of anticipating them at the acceptance points.
